Rapidly increasing needs for high-performance computing power, rapidly growing data collections, and increasingly evident security threats and vulnerabilities all demonstrate the urgent need for technology that provides secure and efficient access to computing and data resources. TRECC's Linux cluster will be a working testbed for the development of technologies that address these crucial concerns.
Secure On-Demand Computing Environment
Current supercomputing technology often requires the user to run a daunting gauntlet of system rules and regulations before gaining access to processing time. The cluster computer at TRECC will be used to test a means of supplying on-demand supercomputing with a simplified system for user access, allowing businesses and entrepreneurs to perform, for example, modeling and simulation studies during the course of their research.
Storage Security
This project will push the state-of-the-art in storage security by formulating a suite of "Security Benchmarking" tests, developing a quantitative measure of the security of a storage system, building a secure and resilient distributed file system, and creating light-weight encryption techniques for stored data.
