TESTERS WANTED FOR DISCUS TOOL So that we may continue to make improvements, the DISCUS (Distributed Innovation and Scalable Collaboration in Uncertain Settings) Research Team at the University of Illinois is currently looking for a diverse pool of potential users to test DISCUS and provide evaluation comments for this decision support system designed to systematically permit organizations to use IT to support pervasive and persistent innovation. DISCUS (Distributed Innovation and Scalable Collaboration in Uncertain Settings) is an emerging support system which enhances innovation by means of the fusion of chance discovery and evolutionary computation to foster creative processes and decision making. DISCUS relies on human-based genetic algorithmspowerful tools for organizational modeling. Such enhanced tools lead to a new an innovation-based approach to computer-supported collaborative work. In particular, DISCUS can augment communication between collaborators with visualization tools, enhancing the value of their online interactions. A key element of this tool is the ability to overcome superficiality of online interaction through augmented reflection using visualization tools. DISCUS is funded by the University of Illinois' TRECC project under NCSA. Currently, DISCUS developers are collaborating with researchers from Hakuhodo, Inc., Japan's second-largest advertising company, who are interested in using the DISCUS tools for marketing research. Volunteers willing to participate in the first marketing research test using DISCUS will be asked to fill a questionnaire for selection purposes. Selected candidates are expected to spend 4 to 8 hours during the week starting on February 28 . Questionnaires will be available in December and January to all interested individuals. Volunteers will be compensated for the time spent filling the questionnaires, as well as for taking part on the test, if selected. If you are interested in participating, please contact the members of the DISCUS project or Shalini Dewan at . More information about DISCUS may be found at http://www-discus.ge.uiuc.edu/.
