FROM THE PROGRAM MANAGER

As our name implies, we are all about technology: technology research, technology demonstration, and technology application in government, business and schools.

The mission of TRECC is threefold:

  • Showcase and demonstrate technology research developed at the University of Illinois (both Chicago and Champaign Urbana).
  • Develop new educational applications and learning systems support K-12 education with emerging technologies such as providing access to the TRECC supercomputer to a high school physics class.
  • Accelerate technology transfer and commercialization of emerging technologies from the academic and private sectors.

While the majority of university research for which we provide funding is in the area of information technologies, we also support other technology areas, such as nanotechnologies and sensors. We encourage academic researchers to use the TRECC computing and collaboration infrastructure available at our high-tech facility in West Chicago. Similarly, we encourage technology researchers in small- and medium-size businesses to use the TRECC infrastructure for running models and simulations and for scientific collaboration with their peers in academia and industry.

We have had considerable successes in the technology transfer and commercialization arena as well. With assistance from TRECC, a significant number of entrepreneurs and small businesses have successfully competed for DoD and other federal research funding. The Small Business Innovative Research program, the Small Business Technology Transfer program, and Broad Agency Announcements are excellent opportunities to secure federal funding.

There is a lot more to TRECC than we can cover in this newsletter, so please visit our website at www.trecc.org to learn more about what TRECC has to offer.
