Cluster Computing

TRECC has two clusters available for use by entrepreneurs and small business owners, academic researchers interested in commercializing their work, and educational, public, and private institutions. Any application that benefits from parallel processing will potentially benefit from cluster computing.

TRECC's high-performance computing resources include:

  • A high-performance computing cluster with 26 2GHz Intel XEON processors on 13 nodes with 2Gb of memory each, and 4.5 terabytes of RAID5 storage
  • A high-performance graphics cluster with 32 processors on 16 nodes and 15-panel LCD tiled display (6400 x 3072 pixel resolution) optimized for visual simulation. This system is currently on loan to the Adler Planetarium of Chicago, Illinois as part of the exhibits in the Space Visualization Laboratory..
  • Lambda Vision, is a visualization portal for the OptiPuter project. Lambda Vision is a high-performance graphics cluster with 22 AMD Opteron processors on 11 nodes and a 20 panel LCD tile display (8000 x 4800 pixel resolution) optimized for visual simulation and high speed broadband connectivity.

In academic high-performance computing environments, users typically need to comply with a large system of rules and regulations which direct the priority of the user's needs and how much time will be committed to the user's project.

TRECC is currently identifying potential users who could benefit from the availability of expanded and high-speed computing research, with the goal of enabling on-demand, web-accessible high-performance computing for a variety of users.
