TRECC's West Chicago facility is a valuable resource for many different communities. For the academic and commercial sectors, TRECC provides a high-technology center for researching, developing, testing, and showcasing emerging technologies. The TRECC facility is used by commercial R&D staff to meet with university researchers and to demonstrate their technology innovations.
As a training facility, TRECC has been used to present training courses both locally and to remote locations. The TRECC facility provides the K-12 community with an ideal venue for teaching and demonstrating mathematics and science to students. The TRECC facility also has been used to present training courses for entrepreneurs and small businesses.
TRECC has also hosted professional associations, such as the Illinois Business and Investor Forum; local government agencies, including the West Chicago Police Department; non-profit groups; and cultural institutions.
TRECC's computing resources include:
A 26-processor high performance computing cluster with 4.5 terabytes of mass storage to accommodate data-intensive research.
A 22-processor high performance graphics cluster with a 20-panel tiled Lambda Vision display wall, producing a computer-controlled display larger and considerably more detailed than standard projection technologies allow.
Laptop computers for use with training classes.
TRECC's resources for enhanced communication and collaboration include:
10 gigabit broadband connectivity. TRECC's dedicated fiber connection provides wide access to global research networks, enabling wide collaboratory efforts and facilitating the ability to demonstrate on a national scale conceptual and prototype technologies for moving extremely large amounts of data quickly.
The Access Grid. Access Grid™ nodes for high-end videoconferencing. The Access Grid Nodes in TRECC gives users the chance to build large "virtual meeting rooms" with other Access Grid sites.
